
Brisa Karow
Multimedia Journalist
Brisa is a freelance journalist in San Diego and pursues reporting related to local government, environment, ocean, energy, water and accessibility. She works as a San Diego Documenter, a program part of Public Matters and ran by inewsource, and reports on local government throughout San Diego County.
Prior to moving to San Diego, Brisa worked with various local news organizations in Flagstaff, Arizona, and reported on community-based topics, including politics, environment, education, diversity, disabilities, women’s health and the arts. As editor-in-chief of The Lumberjack, she worked with a rotating staff of about 70 people per semester to move the Northern Arizona University student newspaper's content and delivery into the digital age while progressing its print product from a newspaper to its first-ever high-quality magazines. The Lumberjack won Arizona Press Club awards in student reporting, photojournalism and print design for 2024 published work under her leadership.
